Church Lane Gallery is sad to say a fond farewell to Graham Mant our resident potter for many years who died in October. He studied pottery with Bernard Tompkins doing evening classes at North Oxfordshire College of Art. He was a true enthusiast setting up his own pottery in some outbuildings at his home in Bloxham. Pig Pen Pottery became something of a community hub hosting not only open studios for Oxfordshire Artweeks, but other village events including Apple Day in October and Apple Wassailing at Twelfth Night. Needless to say the atmosphere was always convivial and cider was always quaffed from Graham’s beautiful hand thrown tankards. He had a talent for throwing classic studio pottery. He had a keen eye for form, producing work with beautiful lines. His kiln management was excellent enabling him to produce vibrant glaze effects too. He was a wonderful member of our gallery team and we will miss his cheery smile and lively personality. We can continue to enjoy his pottery for a time as we still have some pieces in Church Lane Gallery for you to see.
