New Artists – Verna Wass

We are delighted to welcome some new faces to Church Lane Gallery! This week, we introduce Verna Wass, AKA The Kitchen Milliner.

Verna took up Millinery in 2013 with a 4 day introductory course through the WI at Denman College. She was hooked! She has since studied for City and Guilds Levels 2 and 3 with Louise Pocock in Chipping Campden and is about to submit her level 3 portfolio.

In addition to her work for City and Guilds she has made a range of special occasion hats and trimmings for family and friends. A regular attendee at London Hat Week, she has exhibited her work in the London Hat Week Great Exhibition in 2019 and 2020. Her most recent creation, Gin and Bling Cocktail Hat, was featured as “Hat of the Month” in the April 2021 edition of HATalk Magazine.

Verna draws her inspiration from beautiful fabrics, colours and an eclectic range of forms both natural, architectural and man made. She uses traditional couture techniques and each piece is entirely hand made and individual. She is currently working on a collection inspired by a visit to Russia. You can view more of Verna's work here.
